PRICE REDUCED: Located down a quiet country road midway between the Beaverkill Valley and the Delaware River, Six Gable Farm is a delightful farmhouse restoration surrounded by private woods.
In 2005, the neglected house needed a new stone foundation, roof, mechanicals, windows and more. There were threats of demolition, but the current owners had a vision.
Flash forward, and enter through the grand front portico with its cheerful sky blue ceiling. Inside, a small foyer flows in several directions on the first floor: head straight and you're in an oversized and sunny eat-in kitchen. Turn left into a light and airy dining room. To the right is the first half of a divided living room. The other half ends in front of a custom bluestone fireplace built into a corner wall.
The house centers around the grand staircase with its mahogany and whitebalustrade. Upstairs, the second floor features three huge bedrooms and two full baths. The master suite is gracious and generous, with a private sitting room and well-appointed windowed bath. The other two bedrooms - one blue and one green - boast the same gleaming floors and fully restored windows found throughout the house.
The original layout is intact on the third floor where there are six small, renovated rooms that could easily be merged into two or three grandbedrooms.
The third floor is fully renovated, including crackled paint on the door and window frames, transom windows, and painted barn doors on the closets. These rooms could be combined in a number of ways, or left as is for office use or for kids. Separate heating zones allow for the whole floor to be shut off if not in use.
Outside, there's a level clearing surrounded by trees on one side of the house, and a big yard out front. There are substantial woods in back bordered by stone walls and dotted with blueberry bushes. Mature landscaping and tall pines add visual balance all around.
Six Gable Farmis a stone's throw from Tennanah Lake Golf and Tennis Club, and also the secret coves of Crystal Lake state park. World-class fishing, kayaking on the Delaware, biking and hiking endless roads and trails — this house is in the center of it all.
